RAMP is a forward-thinking, active, complex non-profit and we are currently seeking an energetic, knowledgeable individual to serve as our full-time Youth Education Advocate/Independent Living Advocate. RAMP's annual budget is approximately $2 million and consists of a variety of funding sources from State and Federal contracts, United Way support, private donors, foundation grants and more. We currently employ 34 staff from four offices, serving the counties of Winnebago, Boone, Stephenson and DeKalb.

Purposes, Parameters, Qualifications, Activities and Performance Indicators

for the position of

Youth Education Advocate/Independent Living Advocate

 

  1. Purpose of Position: Provides personalized educational advocacy and assistance to youth with disabilities and their families ensuring a fair, equitable and successful educational experience. Also provides personalized, consumer driven services, information & referral, peer counseling & support, education and advocacy, and independent living skills training, while advocating for the rights of all people to make their own choices. This position also requires an understanding of the principle of the Independent Living (IL) philosophy, and a genuine desire to carry out this philosophy.

 

  1. Position Parameters: Reports; Reports directly to the County Manager; Full-time, Full Benefits; Salaried/Non-exempt; Travel and Expenses Reimbursed.

 

  • Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Associates or Bachelor's Degree in a field directly related to the operations of RAMP; or
  2. Three (3) years of equivalent experience and understanding of non-profit or direct service programs;
  3. Personal experience with a disability and/or working with persons with disabilities;
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present information in a clear, concise manner;
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team player;
  6. A belief and commitment to the Independent Living (IL) Philosophy and a vision for seeing it implemented for all persons in our four county catchment area;
  7. Self-Motivated and creative in problem solving;
  8. Reliable transportation and a willingness to work evening and weekend hours, if needed;
  9. Ability to use/learn Microsoft Office programs: Word, Access, Excel, and Outlook.
  10. Ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining organization and meeting deadlines;
  11. Professional manner in dress and when interacting with others both inside and outside of the organization;
  12. Self-motivated.

 

  1. Job Activities and Performance Indicators (in order of priority): 

A1.     Collaborate with consumers to identify needs using a holistic approach and taking into account all areas of consumers' lives.

A2.     Provide Transition Planning Training to parents/students.      

A3.     Actively serve as an advocate of the Independent Living Philosophy and disability related laws.

A4.     Maintain enthusiasm and creativity in assisting consumers. 

A5.     Maintain an active caseload and complete all necessary paperwork and documentation     

A6.     Educate the community on what assistance and services are available through RAMP. 

A7.     Complete monthly paperwork and quarterly reports in a timely fashion as required.
