Curriculum Services Specialist


  • To teach and develop RAMP's curricula to their full potential in Boone, DeKalb, Stephenson, and Winnebago counties
  • Assist with finding and scheduling community partners and preparing materials for each classroom
  • Foster good relationships with local schools to assist in helping the program grow to more schools
  • Aid in the continued development of all three curricula and assist in promoting them.
  • This position requires a thorough understanding of the Independent Living (IL) Philosophy and a genuine desire to implement it for RAMP and in the schools districts throughout all four counties. 


 POSITION PARAMETERS: Reports directly to the Curriculum Services Manager; Full-time; Full Benefits; Salaried/Non-exempt; Travel and Expenses Reimbursed.



  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in a field easily related to the responsibilities of the position
  • Two years of proven, successful work similar to the position's job activities
  • Experience with the IEP process and general knowledge of laws and regulations related to Special Education (or willingness to learn)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present information in a clear, concise manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a team player and with children of all ages
  • Professional manner in dress and when interacting with others both inside and outside of the organization
  • Ability to teach material from organizational curriculum to a variety of ages (pre-K'age 22)
  • Ability to connect with students with a variety of disabilities (developmental, learning, behavior, etc.) and help them achieve their potential
  • Ability to adjust learning materials to students' educational and cognitive needs and learning styles
  • Ability to work well with a variety of personality types
  • Ability to maintain a flexible attitude and demeanor with regard to scheduling, events, and classroom environments
  • Self-motivated and creative in problem solving
  • Ability to collaborate and bring ideas to the table with regard to educational materials and student needs.
  • Personal experience and/or intimate knowledge of and belief in the Independent Living Philosophy
  • Ability to use/learn Microsoft Office programs: Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Reliable transportation as position requires driving to schools throughout DeKalb, Winnebago, Stephenson, and Boone Counties
  • Basic knowledge of American Sign Language helpful
  • Must submit to and pass criminal background check allowing you to work in schools


  • Teach iBelong, Ignite, and T'NT in classrooms in all four counties.
  • Coordinate lesson material and classroom details with teachers at each of the schools.
  • Assist the Curriculum Services Manager with the continued development of all curriculums.
  • Make relationship building (and maintaining) and networking with community partners and school districts of paramount importance to your on-going role.
  • Increase the visibility of RAMP's Curriculum Services programs in the community, including with schools, higher education institutions, funders, and community-based partners.
  • Assist the Curriculum Services Manager, as directed, with contractual obligations and deadlines related to the iBelong, Ignite and T'NT programs and the funding of them, in conjunction with the financial and contractual positions within RAMP.
  • Develop effective communication systems with staff, schools, administrators, and students.
  • Work to build a culture that is supportive of students with disabilities educational attainment and achievement, as well as their expected success as adults.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.




RAMP presents three types of curriculum that the successful applicant would present in participating schools.


iBelong: Brings disability awareness to the classroom and educates students (Pre-K through 6th grade) through activities and lesson plans designed to:

- build disability awareness into school curriculum through active learning experiences - increase knowledge about disabilities - foster positive attitudes towards people with disabilities, and, - promote acceptance of people will disabilities in all aspects of school and community life.


Ignite: Educates middle school students who receive special education services (7th and 8th graders with high incidence disabilities) to become active participants in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Transition Planning meetings through activities and lesson plans designed to:

  • Understand that they are the drivers of their visions and dreams for the future,
  • Through participating in their IEPs and Transition Planning meetings,
  • To build their confidence in doing so, students identify their personal learning style, communication style, and personality style.


Teens in Transition (T'NT): Prepares high school students who receive special education services (grades 9 through 12 with high incident disabilities) for life after high school in regards to:

- post-secondary education, - employment, and, - personal responsibility in life and to the community.


Training on each specific program will be provided.
